Eating My Way Through Austin One Mexican Restaurant At A Time

My family and I moved from southern California to the Austin area twelve years ago.  I was concerned that I would not be able to find good Mexican Restaurants like the ones we left behind in California. Austin not only met my expectations, it surpassed them.  I started out discovering some local spots like Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant, Casa Garcia’s and La Margarita.  Those restaurants were a good start but were only the beginning of my discoveries.  I was introduced to Chuy’s and Hula Hut by my brother.  Wow!  What a treat!  Chuy’s has the most amazing deluxe chicken enchiladas, awesome chile rellenos and yummy jalapeno ranch!  Hula Hut amazed me with their Polynesian infused fajitas and their tubular tacos. Lupe Tortilla rolled into town and it did not disappoint.  Their signature fajitas, combined with their freshly made corn and flour tortillas, are always superb. Gloria’s is a Salvadoran/ Mexican Restaurant.  My favorite dish is the Gloria’s super special, which contains typical Salvadoran food.    A Torchy’s Tacos was built close to my home.  I learned that Trochy’s started as a food truck in downtown Austin and has now grown into a large chain of brick and mortar stores.  Their tacos are unique and fantastic and let’s not forget about their mouthwatering queso.  I was so happy when Rosa’s Café built a restaurant close to my home.  I love their combination nachos, Taco Tuesdays, freshly made flour tortillas and their salsa bar.  I know my culinary journey into the Mexican Restaurants in Austin is only beginning.  I look forward to trying many more locations and going to downtown  Austin to discover some hidden treasures.  Make sure you enjoy a wonderful Mexican Restaurant soon!
