The new home construction builders face more challenges for TBB (To Be Built) homes. Subcontractors are becoming harder to come by. There aren't enough trades/subcontractors to keep up
Before having children, my weekends were filled with "ME TIME", which meant sleeping in, relaxing, reading and doing other things that I enjoyed. These days, it's all about my son and his hectic schedule. Whether soccer, karate, or band, every weekend is filled with some sort of event or competition. Lately, of the three extracurricular activities, my boy is showing the most interest in band. Let me explain what that means for me. Being a Band parent requires some level of commitment. Once I became a band parent, there were steps I needed to complete. There is band parent orientation. Then volunteering for at least one, of many volunteering opportunities. I was being far too ambitious when I signed on to be part of the prop building team, the concession team, and the uniform washing team. Oh my gosh!! Still, my son says, "Mom, you can't be as tired as I feel." He is absolutely correct. My son and the other 300 plus band members are practicing tirelessly, before, during and after school. The hours of practice. The marching. The music. The teamwork. The uniforms. The good grades.
Yesterday, the band was set to compete in the Band of America Competition, which was to begin at 9:30 a.m. With the angry weather we have been seeing, our band has not performed on the last three Fridays at football games. So, yesterday's contest was the first public performance since the beginning of September. Again, the weather was not on their side. The competition was delayed six hours. The children waited on the buses, wearing their full uniforms except the hats and jackets. Imagine sitting on a hot, stinky bus. For hours. They ate their lunch on the bus. Ewww. Anyway. They were all good sports.
When the sun finally showed, the band was more than ready to show their stuff. Out of 27 bands, they were set to be the number 10 band to get on the field. The band was awesome!! Their performance on point!! They earned the ranking of 8th place!! Couldn't be prouder of the outcome.
These kiddos are determined, committed, exhausted, sleep-deprived. And yet they have a fight in them. To be the best marching band in the area. In my eyes, the are Number 1!! :)
